Creative Writing Competition

As part of the first Walton-on-Thames Film Festival, we are delighted to launch a creative writing* competition, based on the theme of the festival which is celebrating the 120th film adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by famous Walton film pioneer Cecil Hepworth.

We actively encourage members of the Walton-on-Thames, Hersham or wider Elmbridge residents to take part. The competition will receive entries until  5pm Friday 26th May 2023.

There are three age groups, each with its own ‘theme’:

Creative Writing 11

1)   Children aged up to 11

‘Create a story or poem about a character from Alice in Wonderland visiting Walton-on-Thames’.

Creative writing 11-16

2)   Young Adults aged 12 – 16

‘If Alice were born today, what would a contemporary ‘Wonderland’ look like?’.

Creative writing 17+

3)   Adults aged 17 and above

‘If you fell down a Walton rabbit hole, where would you go?, what would you do / experience?’

* Entries in each age group can be a poem or a short piece of creative writing but must be no longer than one side of A4.  You can be as creative as you like with your presentation, i.e., a longer thin poem over two columns.
